ABSTRACT

Although a great many research questions remain unan-

swered, the key issues for several decades have been the lack

of a robust etiologic model in sarcoidosis and lack of a

validated investigation and management algorithm for

pulmonary sarcoidosis, which remains the most prevalent

form of major organ involvement. Better understanding of

the etiology would cast light on many other aspects of

pathogenesis. Similarly, more accurate staging of pulmonary

disease and the development of more effective treatments

would have immediate relevance to the investigation and

management of other less prevalent patterns of major organ

involvement.
