ABSTRACT

Behaviour and prognosis The significance of uterine fibroleiomyoma extends beyond gynaecological practice in which they may cause every sign and symptom except amenorrhoea. Anaemia is frequent. Fibroleiomyoma is readily removed surgically but operation may be late and the enlargement of the uterus so great that urinary obstruction and infection occur. Occasionally, fibroleiomyoma provides a focus for metastasis from very common cancers such as carcinoma of the breast. However, transformation to leiomyosarcoma is rare.
