ABSTRACT
These are relatively small devices that generate impulses from a power source, which is usually sited inferior to the left clavicle. Travelling down pacing wires to the electrode tip(s), the impulses initiate depolarization of the myocardium. This is an essential device in patients who have symptomatic disturbances of the conductive pathways of the heart.
