ABSTRACT
CASE 8.1 – My periods are infrequent. I have not had any for 7 months. A 26-year-old woman attends a gynaecology clinic concerned that she has not had a menstrual period for 7 months. She had her fi rst period when she was 12 years old. Her periods have been gradually becoming more infrequent. She keeps athletically fi t and has recently been training for a marathon and has lost some weight. She has a normal healthy appetite and diet. She claims not to have been sexually active for the past 12 months. Her home pregnancy test is negative.
