Intrapartum care and complications of labour

The management of the after-coming head requires a good understanding of the mechanisms and processes of labour and the pelvic anatomy. There are traditionally three classical approaches. These include the Burns-Marshall technique, the Mauriceau-Smellie-Veit manoeuvre and the application of forceps. However, in some circumstances these may not be successful and other options must therefore be considered.
