ABSTRACT

The foundation programme was introduced in August 2005, and intends to give the trainee a structured, well-supervised competency-based approach to training. It spans a 2-year period (usually commencing in August) and is composed of placements of between 3-6 months in length (predominantly 4 months) within various specialties. Foundation training in essence is the bridge between medical school and core, specialty, and GP training.
