ABSTRACT

Intravenous cannulation is recommended for patients with:

previous PPH

grandmultiparity (fifth and subsequent labours)

anaemia ([Hb] < 10 g/dL)

multiple pregnancy

previous CS (undergoing a trial of vaginal delivery)

meconium-stained amniotic fluid

high-risk pregnancy, where the likelihood of operative intervention or peripartum haemorrhage is significant
