ABSTRACT
Thrombophilia is an abnormality of haemostasis predisposing to thrombosis. It may be:
hereditary:
activated protein C resistance (associated with factor V Leiden mutation)
protein C deficiency
protein S deficiency
antithrombin deficiency
prothrombin gene mutation
acquired:
antiphospholipid syndrome
polycythaemia
other conditions (e.g. malignancy)
