ABSTRACT

Epidemiological studies strongly indicate that serum apo B is more closely associated with the development of CHD than other lipid risk factors such as total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.103,104 Apolipoprotein AI may also be an improvement on HDL cholesterol and influence ischaemic heart disease risk independently of apo B.103,104 Apolipoprotein (a) may be independently related to the risk of CHD, but this relationship is not nearly as strong as for apo AI and B.105
