ABSTRACT
A second important point is that acute confusion may be the first manifestation of a pathological process that can lead to a reduced level of consciousness if untreated. Examples include encephalitis and intracranial haemorrhage. Any patient presenting with confusion and a reduced level of consciousness requires urgent clinical assessment.
