ABSTRACT
If the emerging results of a study indicate unambiguous safety concerns, then there is no ethical dilemma in abandoning it. If interim ndings show little or no advantage, then termination may also be appropriate. And if equipoise is lost because of the publication of convincingly positive (or negative) results with the same intervention for the same condition, then abandoning the study may also be fully justiably.
