ABSTRACT

Semi-structured interviews are conducted using a loose framework of open questions that dene, at least initially, the area to be explored. As the interview progresses, however, the interviewer (or interviewee) will diverge from the original outline questions in order to explore particular ideas or issues in greater detail. Depth interviews are less structured and cover only one or two issues, but interviewers need to exercise considerable skill if they are to ensure that interviewees talk fully and freely.
