ABSTRACT

Obtaining union Obtaining union of an established pseudarthrosis is difficult.1 In the past, numerous operations have been tried with dismal results.2 It is important to be aware of the procedures that have a poor chance of success in order to avoid them as inappropriate surgery may further compromise the chance of a satisfactory outcome.3,4

Shortening of the limb At birth itself the affected tibia is slightly shorter than the normal side. Progressive shortening of the leg occurs as long as the pseudarthrosis remains ununited.5 Repeated unsuccessful operations further hamper normal growth of the leg.
