ABSTRACT

Torticollis or wry neck is a combined deformity of the neck with tilt of the head to one side and rotation of the chin to the opposite side (Figure 23.1). There are numerous causes of torticollis, of which congenital muscular torticollis is the one that will concern orthopaedic surgeons. However, making the appropriate diagnosis when confronted with other causes of torticollis is highly important. While we exist in an era of multiple investigations the appropriate diagnosis is usually reached by attention to the history and examination.
