NB: A continuous flow system can be routinely employed for diagnostic purposes if desired, to facilitate directed biopsies and seamless conversion to therapeutic procedures (‘see and treat’).
OVERVIEW
Within endoscopy, different levels of disinfection are used: cleaning followed by disinfection or cleaning followed by sterilization. All facilities must comply with current legal requirements, published standards (both European and UK) and Department of Health best practice guidance. Decontamination should begin as soon as possible after endoscopes and their accessories have been used.
