ABSTRACT

The pulmonary and coronary circulations are discussed in separate chapters (Chapters 16 and 17), as in previous editions. The lungs (Chapter 16) warrant separate attention because of their high blood flow at low pressure; this confirms the principles that were first established for the systemic circulation. Coronary arteries warrant separate attention because of the unusual (predominantly diastolic) nature of flow though the left ventricular (LV) myocardium, and their relevance to atherosclerotic and myocardial disease.
