ABSTRACT

The family Rhabdoviridae, which covers Piry virus, is considered a family of old RNA viruses among the Mononegavirales and might have been present throughout the evolution of plants and animals. The Rhabdoviridae family is composed of six genera: Vesiculovirus, Lyssavirus, Ephemerovirus, Novirhabdovirus, Cytorhabdovirus, and Nucleorhabdovirus, which can be separated into two groups on the basis of their tropism to animals and plants. Animal rhabdoviruses are further divided epidemiologically into viruses transmitted through bites by arthropods such as vesiculoviruses (VSV) and ephemeroviruses and by animals like lyssaviruses [1,2].
