ABSTRACT

Hendra virus (HeV) is a zoonotic virus transmitted to humans from Pteropid bats (genus Pteropus; commonly referred to as ying foxes or fruit bats) via horses. Hendra virus was rst identied in an outbreak in the Brisbane suburb of Hendra that resulted in the death of 21 horses and one human and the infection of another. Due to biosafety issues and public health concern, all surviving horses were destroyed [1,2].
