ABSTRACT

Mumps virus is a ubiquitous human pathogen that is highly contagious. It is a nonsegmented, negative-strand RNA virus belonging to the family Paramyxoviridae, subfamily Paramyxovirinae, genus Rubulavirus together with other members, such as human parainuenza virus type 2 and 4 (PIV2, PIV4) and parainuenza virus 5 (previously called simian virus 5, SV5) [1-3].
