ABSTRACT

Globally, rotavirus infections had been reported to account for approximately 22% (ranged from 17 to 28%) of childhood hospitalizations with diarrhea, and were associated with about 454,000-705,000 deaths annually among children under 5 years of age [1]. Mortality was greatest in south Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, with more than 100,000 deaths every year occurring in India alone [5]. Rotavirus infects most children early in life and although the majority of rst infections cause only mild diarrhea, 15-20% need treatment at a clinic, and 1-3% lead to dehydration that require hospitalization [6].
