ABSTRACT

More than twenty years ago, the World Wide Web was still a blueprint. Nowadays millions of people around the world could not imagine their lives without it. The WWW has quite rapidly evolved into a vast information, communication and transaction space. Unfortunately this growth runs into a problem: lack of a global system which can be used to easily publish and process data in a way standard by anyone. It can sometimes be difficult to find, access, present and maintain the information required by a wide variety of users. One of the main obstacles is that most information on the Web is made for human interpretation and is not evident for agents browsing the Web. The Semantic Web is an effort to improve the current Web by making Web resources “machine-understandable”, because the current Web resources do not respect machine-understandable semantics.
