ABSTRACT

Stream sediment refers to particles that are transported or deposited in stream channels. These particles are derived from rocks, soil, or biological materials in the watershed and are carried to stream channels through runoff, debris ow, and channel and bank erosion. Particles deposited by wind erosion are less signicant in humid areas. Sediment impairs the physical, chemical, and biological properties of streams and is the greatest water pollutant in the United States. The uctuation of sediment concentration and sediment yield are good indicators for the effectiveness of watershed management practices.
