ABSTRACT
The signicance of water to life and the environment can be discussed from the perspective of its various biological, chemical, physical, socioeconomic, mechanical, political, and military functions. These functions stem from its unique properties, abundant quantity, and vast distribution on Earth, which subsequent chapters will discuss.
