ABSTRACT

The Interpersonal Inventory1 is, in essence, a register of the key contemporary relationships in the patient’s life. It is a unique feature of IPT in that it structures the process of history gathering and formulation of interpersonal problem areas as well as providing a reference point for conducting IPT. Although the Interpersonal Inventory is typically compiled during the first two to three sessions of IPT, it is best considered a ‘work in progress’ as most therapists and patients find that their perspectives of relationships and the problems associated with them change during the course of IPT.
