ABSTRACT
The management team of vehicle electrical / electronic development department held a four-hour brainstorming session. The solution proposed by system engineer, would cost development time and money and in the end, would amount to another $40 per vehicle for the switch hardware. Sometimes homegrown cost reductions are small; however, we follow the philosophy of “many raindrops make an ocean.” Variable costs are costs associated with production of the product or delivery of a service. We use the tools previously discussed to generate a number of cost reduction ideas or possible solutions to improving our cost structure. If we have a group of people generating the ideas, we may see a combination or building of larger ideas from a core idea or central theme. Mind mapping is a diagramming technique used to generate associations between tasks or ideas and some central theme. For rating, we are critically reviewing the ideas we have previously generated for viability.
