RIS is an acronym for radiology information system, which is software specifically designed for the needs of an imaging department. It typically interfaces with the institution HIS, which stands for hospital information system, which integrates all clinical and business software. Integrated with the HIS, PACS handles data associated with images and RIS deals with financial, patient, and other information. This information is retrieved from and passed to the HIS.
