ABSTRACT

Over the past decades shortages have occurred in almost all disciplines in medical imaging. Conversely, so have overages. These occur because of change in demand, which can be caused by several factors including changes in technology, aging population, number of programs producing graduates of imaging disciplines, the economy in general, and increase in utilization (computed tomography or CT, magnetic resonance imaging or MRI). It has been stated that the demand for imaging services will be increasing greatly in the future due to the ramifications of “Obamacare,” (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010) which will include a much higher percentage of the population having access to care.
