ABSTRACT

The word ergonomics derives from the Greek words ergon (work) and nomos (laws) to denote the science of work [1]. Ergonomics provides theoretical principles, empirical data, and design methods for optimizing human well-being and performance during work activities [1]. The goal of ergonomics is to fit the work environment to the person, which is a marked change in practice from previous decades, where it was the person who was made to fit. Ergonomics spans the physical, cognitive, and organizational aspects of work, but this chapter will focus exclusively on the aspects of ergonomics that directly relate to computer access.
