ABSTRACT
What are the targets that terrorists seek? We hear a lot about terrorists, but we don’t hear a lot about the actual targets they are going after. In this chapter, we will look at the way that the target community has organized itself, and we will look at what targets terrorist groups have actually been attacking in the first 10 years of this century. We will also look at the types of attacks they have undertaken, and what sorts of weapons or methods they have used. There are a lot of lists and numbers in this chapter, and for that I apologize. Security managers cannot plan for adequate protection from terrorism without properly understanding the size and shape of the problem, though, and we would be negligent if we didn’t take advantage of the trove of actual target data available to us.
