Overview The use of electronic medical records (EMRs) is a recent phenomenon that has been introduced into the hospital workplace within the last 15 years. Though they are still in their preliminary stages of adoption and implementation in organizations around the country, there is importance in reviewing their performance to understand the benefits and/or flaws of the system and to see how they have impacted societal needs. For this reason, this chapter includes a series of multinomial logistic regressions to study the impacts of EMR systems on patient quality, coordination, and service. Dependent variables measured are quality of care, communication problems encountered, time spent with patients, and medical errors detected. Discrete effects also are analyzed to measure the impact that technology usage has on each problem in quality of service and care.
