ABSTRACT

Tolerance design Tolerance design usually is performed after implementing the parameter design. Some companies rely heavily on tolerance design to improve quality; if that fails, they revert to system design. Tolerance design itself makes products more expensive to manufacture because it requires higher-grade components (or materials). System design requires breakthrough technologies that are difficult to develop. Therefore, we suggest that the parameter design be performed such that the system performance is insensitive to noises. When the parameter design has been performed and the quality level is still not satisfactory, tolerance design should be conducted.
