ABSTRACT

Fundamentals of experimental design Initiated by Ronald A. Fisher in 1920, experimental design or design of experiments (DOE) was originally applied in agriculture but is now widely applied in industry and other related fields. Experimental design is knowledge used to discuss the conducting of experiments and the analysis of observations, involving various contents [interested readers can refer to the professional book by Montgomery (2009)]. This chapter first provides a brief introduction of the factorial experiments. We then concentrate on factorial design and fractional factorial design, where all factors have two levels. Finally, we explain how to run a successful experiment.
