ABSTRACT

As with any project, there is a need for performance measures. These performance measures are those traditionally associated with monitoring a project. Unlike previous definitions of performance (fitness for use, operating performance, performance to goals and objectives), performance for this chapter describes financial and project management metrics. A definition of performance does change for each dimension of innovation. That is, for an innovation project dealing with change, measures of performance may describe the effectiveness of the decision, efficiency, overall acceptance, costs, and overall benefit. Measures of performance will vary with the type of organization (profit, nonprofit, or government).
