The utilization of agro-residues to produce commercial biomolecules is considered an important element in developing techno-economically feasible technologies that would contribute to the development of sustainable processes and the generation of value-added products. Brazilian and Indian economies are among the most important agriculture-based economies in the world, and the residues generated by the intense agricultural activity represent potential feedstock that could be utilized in diverse production chains instead of being discarded (Singhania et al. 2009; Soccol and Vandenberghe 2003).
