ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION Over the past few decades, laparoscopic surgery has become more commonplace among all surgical disciplines. Reduced trauma to the patient, less morbidity, and faster recovery are considered to be the main motivating reasons for patients and physicians to opt for these less invasive procedures. The overall postoperative benefits of certain laparoscopic operations, such as laparoscopic-assisted colon resection for cancer, may not be as great as most others, and further studies are needed to establish its role.
