ABSTRACT

A dedicated "laparoscopic suite" in the operating room is becoming increasingly popular as operating rooms and hospitals are being built or redesigned. Each laparoscopic suite carries the essential basic equipment for laparoscopic surgery, whether they are built into the actual room (suspended from ceilings) or are mounted on mobile carts ("video towers"). In addition to having the basic equipment present and functioning properly before the patient arrives in the operating room, the appropriate room setup and patient positioning are also extremely important prior to starting the actual operation. The entire operating team of nurses, technicians, surgeons, and anesthesiologists must be familiar with the demands of the laparoscopic patient, with the operating room and equipment, as well as with the surgical procedure.
