INTRODUCTION Significance of Central Venous Catheters and the Cost of Related Infections The use of catheters has revolutionized the way cancer patients are treated, and the advent ofcatheter technology is closely related to the improvement of the quality of cancer care and of the life of cancer patients. Effective cancer care can be considered only if there is a safe and reliable intravascular access in order to administer chemotherapy, blood products, antibiotics, fluids, electrolytes, and nutritional support.
