ABSTRACT
Parasitic diseases remain a concern as the new millennium dawns. Even as new diseases emerge in the developed world, hopes for control of some longestablished tropical diseases have faded over the past few decades. Exotic organisms are constantly introduced by international air travel, immigration, and military deployment. Other cosmopolitan agents are increasingly encountered in the course of aggressive cancer treatments, solid organ transplants, and HIV infections.
