Cough accounts for 2.5% of the total number of annual medical visits in the

USA, and persistence of cough is the main reason for seeing the doctor (1,2).

Asthma, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and gastroesophageal

reflux (GER) are the most common causes of acute and chronic cough in children

(3-13).
