ABSTRACT

Turkey, founded in 1923 after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, is situated in the southeast of Europe and bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, Iraq, and Syria on the south; Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia on the east; the Aegean Sea and Greece on the west; and the Black Sea and Bulgaria on the north. The area is 779,452 km2, of which 23,764 km2 are in Europe (Thrace) and 755,688 km 2 in Asia (Anatolia).
