Long-term outcome in weight management may be improved by implementing strategies specifically designed to maintain the behavioral changes accomplished in initial treatment. The various maintenance methods that have been evaluated include extended treatments, skills training, provision of portion-controlled foods, social support, exercise/physical activity, monetary incentives for weight loss and exercise, multicomponent programs, and pharmacotherapy. In this section, we summarize the effectiveness of these strategies.
