ABSTRACT
In the early 1900s, in the English-speaking world, joint sprains were thought to be responsible for most cases of lumbosciatic pain. The first published case of post-manipulative paraplegia resulted from a manipulation performed under general anesthesia by an orthopedic surgeon to treat “SI joint sprain” (Goldthwait).
