ABSTRACT

At times it appears that dermatologists and other physicians have overdone their anathema toward exposure to UV radiation and phototherapy in children is one of those situations. Often it is ignored as an option for treatment whereas in the same situation in an adult it would be the first option considered. Why? The answer is usually: children are so young, they have their whole life in front of them, and you should not expose them to a carcinogen. When the alternative is continued heavy exposure to corticosteroids or use of a potentially toxic systemic agent, UV therapy may be the best choice.
