Imaging is an essential part in the diagnostic work-up of patients with cardiovascular diseases. In clinical cardiology, a presumptive diagnosis is typically formed based on the physical examination and history, and the most appropriate imaging modality is then chosen to confirm or refute this diagnosis. Systematic textbooks of cardiovascular medicine20,21 provide this clinical perspective for the interested reader.
