ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION Although pharmacological intervention to treat established asthma is highly effective in controlling symptoms and improving the quality of life, no strategies have been devised to cure the condition and few are available to modify the natural course of the disease. This inevitably focuses attention on prevention as the optimal approach to avoid having to treat a chronic life-long and incurable disease.
