ABSTRACT

Patients frequently complain of “dizziness” and use this term to describe various symptoms. It can be difficult to obtain an accurate history of the symptoms, especially with the time constraints that clinicians often face. The symptom of dizziness requires taking an open-ended history. Direct questions often suggest symptoms to the patient and can lead to a wrong diagnosis. The first 10 questions to ask (or the question that should be asked 10 times) of a patient with a complaint of dizziness should be, “What do you mean by ‘dizzy’?”
