ABSTRACT

A large proportion of teeth that are root canal retreated are associated with intraradicular bacterial infection. As discussed in Chapter 1, this is an important factor that affects the outcome of endodontic treatment.1,2 Available evidence shows that achieving adequate disinfection of the root canal system will increase the probability of success. Endodontic treatment employs an aseptic technique during which the infected root canal is disinfected using a combination of mechanical and chemical procedures.
