ABSTRACT
Vacuum wound closure is also known as negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and commercially as VAC (vacuum-assisted closure, Kinetic Concepts, Inc.). The concept is that the application of negative, or sub-atmospheric, pressure to selected wounds will speed up their healing and it has been in clinical use since 1993.
