ABSTRACT

Concrete is generally a durable material and can be expected to perform adequately for decades or even centuries in most environments, provided the following conditions are met:

• The constituent materials are suitable for the intended use. • The concrete is proportioned to meet the exposure environment. • The concrete is properly mixed, transported, placed, consolidated,

nished, and cured. • The quality of the concrete is appropriately controlled. • Adequate protection is provided where required (e.g., low pH

environments). • Proper maintenance is implemented where required.
