ABSTRACT

The term workability refers to the ease with which fresh concrete can be mixed, placed, molded, consolidated, and nished. Similarly, the term consistency applies to the ability of the freshly mixed concrete to ow. Although there are a wide variety of test methods for measuring these properties, by far the most widely used is the slump test, which measures the consistency of the concrete in terms of the subsidence (to the nearest ¼ in. or 5 mm) of a molded specimen immediately after removal of the mold (a truncated cone).
